Last Night
Last night,
After hiding from the sun and heat all day,
I caught a glimpse of the sky through the window and found myself spellbound.
I've missed cloud watching -
Here, it's not much of a sport.
All I ever seem to see is
Fog that fades clear by midmorning,
High cirrus swirling back and forth like the strokes of a giant brush against the sky,
Or winter storm clouds that cover the great blue for days on end.
So this was a gift.
An optical illusion that continued to beg the question
Of whether the clouds or sky were nearer to the earth.
And I watched,
The radiant warmth from the balcony floor almost too hot for my feet,
Until the glow was gone.
