Holidaze

We spend the majority of our year eating things that are green and maple sweetened and fermented and Healthy (with extra emphasis on that capital H) - but then Thanksgiving hits, followed by Eric’s birthday and Christmas - and by the end of December, the attitude tends more towards, “eh…what’s one more treat?”

This pattern was reinforced with extra vigor this year by the fact that we just HAD to try making our very own Bûche de Noël cake to celebrate the winter solstice (complete with mushrooms crafted from homemade marzipan and a coffee cream cheese whipped cream frosting)…

…and the fact that my amazing mom challenged herself to make a different cookie dough every day from the 1st of December through the 22nd. And ON the 22nd, I spent the whole day (as in, from 10am to 7pm) helping her bake and decorate several hundred cookies that she then gifted to friends and family on the 23rd. But there were extras, of course. Lots and LOTS of extras. And “ugly” cookies that just didn’t make the cut. Lets just say a whole pile of treats ended up in my belly that day. And on Christmas proper. And I may have eaten a couple today, too.

My favorite part of the whole affair, though, was that people tend to find me intensely serious and seriously intense - and at least I now have proof where I get it from!

Now here I sit, on the eve of the 26th, with the worst sugar hangover and zero regrets. I hope your holidays were also filled with good eats and good laughs, whatever and however you celebrate.
