Hanging Lights at Midnight

There is no subtle joke, no deeper meaning, to this post title - no, that’s really what we’ve been up to.

I’ve made good on my promise to not push myself, to not work outside the bounds of what feels comfortable and unstretched and unstressed. Some projects just becomes all consuming, like a good book that begs to have the next page turned, a series that needs the next episode watched. Eric and I binged podcasts and found a rhythm and hung lights at midnight. It became less like work and more like FUN and now - now, the house is finished.

We’ve officially changed every space, added our touch to every room - and it looks good. Like, really good. So good that we keep walking around patting ourselves on the back because we just can’t get over it. And when we showed it to our neighbors’ friends and couple days ago? They were quite into it, too - that or they were really good actors!! No offer from them yet, but we’re still hopeful.

The point is, moving out of this gorgeous space next week (!!) is going to feel like a step back. The new place is basically just a giant box, built in the late 90’s, with zero architectural character - very much not a place I ever thought I’d end up. But I’m not too worried. My momentarily self-inflated sense of accomplishment has me sure that if you give us a year, you’d never guess its original form.

In the next day or two I’ll start packing up the studio for the move. Half of me is saying this will be no big deal…but the other half is looking around at the immense amount of STUFF I’ve been able to Tetris into that small space and freaking out just a little. What can I say? The more tools and supplies I have at hand, the happier I feel. All the trouble is always more than worth it.

I did finally manage to finish a few jewelry pieces - the turquoise and horsehair earrings from the last post AND a whole pile of wildflower necklaces. The earrings went into the shop this morning and I’ll get the necklaces up just as soon as I can.

I also started working on a new project…

The ingredients are as follows :

Waxed cotton
Leather
Copper rivets
Bright blue Kingman turquoise

They’ll be the first thing I jump into making after the move and I cannot wait - I just hope they’ll come out as I’m imagining!
